Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
