Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
