A group of ten convicted of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has ruled against ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced accusations of spreading fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing hurtful comments about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A circulating unfounded claim suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's gender.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she worked as an educator at his secondary school.
The pair married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
